Continuing our series on Great Women in American History, we are studying Abigail Adams today. Abigail Adams was a big part of our American History!
There are many resources for teaching your kids about Abigail Adams. I used this one: http://www.nwhm.org/Education/biography_aadams.html as a basis, then turned them loose on the Internet to do some searching.
I also use this book, and the one to the left.
The best Internet source I can recommend for Abigail Adams is the First Ladies site: http://www.firstladies.org/biographies/firstladies.aspx?biography=2. This site has a very thorough background on Abigail Adams, and will include everything you need for a basic understanding of Abigail Adams' life.
So, happy learning about Abigail Adams, today's spotlight on Great Women in American History!

We are beginning a study of great women in American History. We all hear about major figures in American History, but I think it's just as important to learn about great women in American History. But what women in American History should we study?
There are many great women in American History to choose from: Betsy Ross, Helen Keller, Abigail Adams and Calamity Jane, just to name a few. We will be learning about these great women in American History and more!
Great Women in American History
I found this complete list of great women in American History. From this list, I am creating a list of great women that we will be studying.
Today, we are focusing on Helen Keller; here's a cool Helen Keller lesson plan that is a great way to learn about Helen Keller.
As a beginning activity, I had my kids all work together to look up Helen Keller on the Internet. Then, we discussed important aspects of her life, including the introduction of Anne Sullivan into her life, and her pivotal moment when she first had her hand placed under the water pump and Anne Sullivan repeatedly spelled "W-A-T-E-R" into her hand.
We discussed how Helen Keller successfully overcame both her blindness and deafness, and graduated from college. She traveled the world, and wrote a number of books. Helen Keller is an inspiration to us all, and that is why she is one of the great women in American History.
